Our commitment
MapRail aims to make its railway information usable by as many people as reasonably possible. We are working towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard, but do not yet claim full conformance.
What should be possible
- zoom text and page content using browser controls;
- navigate primary controls and links using a keyboard;
- use light and dark colour modes;
- read timetable, station and disruption information without relying on the live map; and
- understand delay states from text labels as well as colour.
Alternatives to the map
An interactive map can be difficult for keyboard and screen-reader users. Equivalent railway information is available through live departures and arrivals, the station directory, service timetable pages and the disruptions page.
Known limitations
- the map itself and dense groups of train markers may not be fully usable with every assistive technology;
- third-party map tiles can contain small labels that do not respond to browser text-size settings;
- large timetable tables may require horizontal scrolling on narrow screens; and
- some live descriptions originate in external railway systems and may not use consistent language.
Feedback
If an accessibility issue prevents you from using MapRail, email shaung75@gmail.com with the page address, the problem encountered and, if helpful, the browser or assistive technology being used.
Preparation of this statement
This statement is based on an internal review of MapRail’s current pages and controls. Further automated and assistive-technology testing should be completed as the interface develops.
